John Carlson, DMD
Dr. John Carlson was raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. His father, Dr. Terry Carlson, is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Tuscaloosa, and his grandfather Dr. Norman Carlson practiced dentistry in Northport for more than 50 years. You may say that a passion for dentistry is part of his DNA! Dr. Carlson graduated from Tuscaloosa Academy then received a degree in history from Samford University. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where he was honored for achievement and excellence in the field of orofacial pain by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. Dr. Carlson genuinely enjoys keeping his education and training up to date and usually receives far more continuing education hours than are required.
In addition to furthering his education, Dr. Carlson participates in a local study club comprised of dentists and specialists in the area. They work together as an interdisciplinary team to stay abreast of the best practices, new technologies and other changes in the industry that impact the way we treat our patients. Dr. Carlson has a special interest in complex cases and works closely with the specialists in our area to problem-solve complicated dental situations to get the best possible result, whether that involves a root canal, dental implant, gum treatments, braces or other dental surgery. You can feel confident that your personal goals and all aspects of your dental health have been considered when you visit our office.
Dr. Carlson is committed to treating you with respect and compassion, using the best technology available to provide you with the highest quality of care in a relaxing environment. His goal is to help you look and feel your very best through excellent dental care.
Dr. Carlson has been married to his wife, DeLaune, since 2006, and they have two active, young boys. You may see them with an extra in tow from time to time, as they are also Foster Parents and active supporters of the Foster Care community in Tuscaloosa. In his free time, he enjoys hiking and anything outdoors, training his trusty dog, Bogey, traveling, reading about American history, and attending Alabama sporting events.
